The emulator is mainly used to get extra rewards for completing certain maps, as well as powerleveling several characters simultaneously. I'd also like to mention the incredibly useful controller emulator that allows you to add up to three extra players in split-screen mode. While it's mainly geared towards nightmare difficulty, it still has many valid points even for complete beginners and lower difficulties.
